Project Outline
Fenwick & West is one of the leading technology law firms in the
country. Based in Silicon Valley, the firm has been involved in many
high profile success stories from the technology world. One of the
their primary goals, when doing a tenant improvement for the new Seattle
office, was to create an environment that attracted the best attorneys
in the country - and young lawyers are increasingly interested in
sustainability so LEED certification made sense.
Services Provided
The firm set their sites’ on achieving LEED Platinum certification, and
GVA Kidder Mathews worked closely with the architect and the contractor
to devise a collaborative plan to make it happen. After working through
the decision planning process, GVA Kidder Mathews' Sustainability
Practice team worked with the general contractor and the sub-contractors
to insure plans and specs were followed. Careful record keeping of all
inputs in the process were essential to the LEED application. About 90
percent of the space has daylight and views, creating a more inviting
and invigorating environment. Since visible green features were
desired, most of the interior finishes had an environmental story
including recycled or salvaged materials, native drought tolerant plant
species, etc. Other strategies included an environmental education
program for employees and green office tour; and a green janitorial
program.
How GVAKM Added Value
GVA Kidder Mathews' Sustainability Practice team brought the integrated
design process to the project. Along with all of the participants, the
team established clear goals for the LEED process and was able to
successfully execute those goals. The project received its LEED
Platinum certification making Fenwick & West the first law firm in the
country to receive such a designation.
